ESU has a long and proud history of offering students opportunities for creative expression and to hone their craft under mentorship from faculty in the fine and performing arts and humanities.

  • The Art+Design department offers students a multitude of opportunities to gain experience in product design, sculpting, painting, 3D design, and more. The department's G3 Design Lab (a 3D printing, design and fabrication facility) is equipped with a Stratasys J750 3D printer. In 2015, the Stratasys company provided only three of these high-tech printers to universities across the world and ESU was excited to be one of the three along with Columbia University and New York University. Notably, the university is also proud to have a student-run design agency, New Mind Design, which offers students employment and services to the community.
  • ESU's Theatre department helps students develop their strengths as actors, designers, directors, stage managers or theater technicians. Theatre majors are also taught valuable entrepreneurial skills to encourage creative enterprises. These skills can be applied to many dynamic careers such as television and film, teaching, management, advertising, law, journalism, and politics. Students from all disciplines are invited to audition for any of the ESU productions and should visit the Fine and Performing Arts Center lobby for audition information.
  • English majors at ESU become prepared for jobs in business, media, education, the law, and an array of other career paths. They are taught to communicate effectively and to think imaginatively. Skills obtained as an English major include: writing web content, poetry, fiction, public relations copy, technical documents, and journalism. Other students practice writing for advertising or public relations and still others are trained in elementary education. The department offers students the opportunity to join the official literary club, Calliope, which publishes student poetry, prose, photography, and artwork as well as the Stroud Courier, ESU's student newspaper.
  • The Philosophy and Religion major at ESU allows deep thinkers the opportunity to study and discuss the most important social and ethical questions of our time, as well as delve into enduring questions about human nature, the significance of religion in human society, and what it means to live a good life. In studying philosophy at ESU, students sharpen their thinking abilities in the study of the great questions of human existence as they have been addressed by the greatest thinkers in human history.
