Major Leveraging Grants (awards up to $6,500) are intended to provide seed funding for new, larger research projects. Faculty are required to leverage external money from the funding they receive from the FDR Major Leveraging Grant by submitting at least one full proposal to an external federal, state, or private funding agency or corporation.

NEW!!! Effective fall 2017, Letters of Intent (LOI): As the first step in the grant application process, faculty must submit a Letter of Intent (LOI). No full proposal will be accepted without the submission, and committee approval, of an LOI.

Each LOI is reviewed to determine its potential to enrich undergraduate students’ experiences at ESU, to have broader impacts, to be feasible, and to support the strategic goals of the university. Applicants meeting these benchmarks will be invited to prepare and submit a full grant proposal. Those applicants whose LOIs are approved for full proposal submission will receive notification from ESU eGRANTS.

Please see the FDR Guidelines for eligibility, what the committee funds, submission instructions, and LOI and proposal instructions.

All grant proposals must be submitted online via ESU eGRANTS. Register today.

Checklist for a Winning Proposal:

  • Inclusion of undergraduate researchers
  • Compelling case for funding
  • Clear concepts/language
  • Concise descriptions
  • Descriptive title, logical flow
  • Reasonable budget
  • Follow application requirements/guidelines
  • Strong professional development statement

FDR Grant Policies and Procedures

Travel: FDR grant funds will reimburse your travel expenses but it is the awardee's responsibility to pay initially. (Consider applying for the Commercial Travel Credit Card Program which is for usage by both Kutztown University and East Stroudsburg University campus personnel).

If traveling with your FDR Grant funds, you must scan and include your signed Travel Approval Request Form with your application. PLEASE KEEP THE ORIGINAL FORM -- if your grant is awarded, the original form must be delivered to the OSPR for processing. After the project, reimbursements for travel must be submitted to the OSPR with all original receipts and a completed Travel Reimbursement Form.

Visit PASSHE's Employee Travel Expense Reimbursement Rates per the Board of Governors’ Policy 1986-07-A, Travel Expense Regulations.

If renting a vehicle, all ESU employees are required to use the Trip Optimizer.

Research Compliance: If research involves the use of human subjects, please visit ESU's Institutional Review Board (IRB) and complete the application BEFORE submitting your grant proposal. For the use of live animals, visit the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee(IACUC) site and fill out the application.
