Financial aid is available to eligible ESU students enrolled in summer sessions including newly admitted students. It is important that our students understand the steps to obtain summer aid. Information on how to qualify and apply for summer aid is listed below.

Summer Financial Aid
Summer 2025 is a part of the 24-25 aid year. If you are thinking about taking a summer course here at ESU and would like to qualify for aid you must complete the 2024-2025 FAFSA. Our School Code is: 003320. The last day to complete the 2024-2025 FAFSA is June 30, 2025.
Cost of Attendance
Summer attendance is determined by the office of Financial Aid. This cost includes any necessary expenses students can receive including: tuition & fees, room and board, books, and personal expenses. Since our summer session is a short semester the costs will be prorated.
Summer Enrollment
Students are required to be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible for most financial aid funding. Eligible Federal Pell Grant recipients may be enrolled less than half time.
Freshmen
Any incoming freshen who has been properly admitted into ESU and has completed the 24-25 FAFSA can potentially qualify for summer aid. All qualified students will receive an aid notification letter.
Federal Pell Grant

The Office of Financial Aid will determine your eligibility for all ESU Students based on your level of need that is determined by completing a FAFSA.

  • If you qualify for the Pell Grant and enroll for Summer 2025, you may be eligible for summer Pell if you did not use up all Pell eligibility during the fall and spring semesters.
  • If you qualify and enroll in 6 or more credits you will be eligible for the summer Pell grant award. This summer grant will not affect your Pell grant for the 2025-2026 academic award.
PA State Grant (PHEAA)

Students who are eligible for the State Grant my choose to apply for the Summer Award.

  • To qualify for this award, you must be taking at least 6 credits.
  • A summer term is a period of no less than 5 weeks.
Federal Loans
To qualify for loans in the summer students must be meeting SAP, registered half-time over the course of the summer, and have remaining eligibility from the 2024-2025 academic year.
Plus Loans
A PLUS loan allows you to borrow up to the full cost of college, minus any other financial aid. Like federal student loans, PLUS loans offer a variety of flexible repayment plans.
Alternative Loans
ESU has partnered with several alternative lenders.
Summer Disbursements
Disbursements start to occur after the add/drop period and will continue from that point though out the summer session. The timing of your aid disbursement is based upon your enrollment and if you are actively attending your classes.
