
Exercise Science (M.S.)
Pursue study of a specialized focus within the body of knowledge underlying Exercise Science.
Graduate students garner advanced experience in the Exercise Science sub-disciplines of Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Sport Nutrition, Strength & Conditioning & Sport Psychology within our excellent facilities at East Stroudsburg University.
The program is a blend of theory, laboratory-based experiences and practical opportunities to ensure mastery and a competitive edge in career mobility.
Program Goals
- Graduates will be able to access and critically evaluate literature for their continued professional development
- Graduates will be able to demonstrate independent research skills
- Graduates will demonstrate an in-depth knowledge within an area of Exercise Science
Students can choose from two options within the MS Exercise Science: the thesis option or the internship option.
- In the thesis option students will gain experience in the design and implementation of research within the field of Exercise Science, culminating in a written thesis that is subject to faculty review. The final product is often presented at national professional conferences and submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- In the internship option students will gain extensive professional experience in a work environment under the supervision of faculty and credentialed seasoned professional in an area allied to Exercise Science.
Students can also select fall or spring admission to the program depending upon their specific needs.

Specialized Facilities
ESU's facilities for Exercise Science include:
- Human Performance Laboratory: house state-of-the-art equipment to assess human physiology-includes a BOD POD, Oxygen Analyzers, Blood Lactate and Blood Glucose Analyzers, Urine Analyzers
- Kinesiology Laboratory: Houses the models of bone, muscles, soft tissue and organs. Houses computer stations with Motion Analysis software.
- Applied Physiology Laboratory: This clinical lab houses the stress testing systems with full 12-lead ECG, balance assessments.
- Research Laboratory: This all-purpose lab serves as the dedicated research space for BS and MS students in EXSC. It houses an electrically breaked cycle ergometer, Environmental physiology experimental set-ups, resistance training equipment, and motor control assessment.
- Biomechanics Laboratory: This lab houses our 3D cinematography system and force plates which analyzes gait patterns and other kinetic and kinematic markers in athletes and clinical patients.
