In the age of Big Data, information needs to be shaped into a form that is easily
digestible in order to pinpoint issues/problems in an organization.
Visualized data enables decision-makers to see analytics so that they can grasp difficult
concepts and/or identify new patterns.
Every organization, whether for- or non-profit, uses data; the more effective it is
used, the more potential it has to improve the quality and efficiency of the organization.
Data Visualization, though ubiquitous and necessary in any organization, is not offered
as ubiquitously in higher education.
Therefore, by establishing a focus on Data Visualization, ESU is setting itself apart
from its competition and providing students with a definitive advantage over graduates
from other institutions.
This certificate lays the groundwork for a thorough understanding of Data Visualization
(aka. infographics) with a mathematical statistics component, an applied statistics
component, and a communication design component.
External candidates must be interviewed by the Art + Media + Design department chairperson
to determine eligibility for the certificate program.
Only high school juniors and seniors will need to submit a letter of recommendation
from an art, science, or technology teacher.
Again, we encourage you to initiate a conversation with the certificate faculty contact
person, David Mazure, to learn more about the details of the program before requesting a recommendation
or starting any portion of the application.
