
Returning Warrior Program
The East Stroudsburg University Returning Warrior Program is a re-enrollment program dedicated to assisting students complete their first undergraduate degree.
If you are a former student of East Stroudsburg University who stopped attending during 2020 or 2021 (the time of the pandemic) and want to return to the university and complete your degree but have an outstanding balance from prior terms of attendance, you might be eligible for the program!
If you are accepted into the program, the university will provide you with academic and financial support structures to help you complete your academic journey. As you make satisfactory academic progress, you will earn scholarships that will offset and reduce your outstanding balance when you left the university. That’s right! If you successfully complete your academic program, you will graduate having earned scholarships that totally address the outstanding balance you had when you stopped out!
Eligibility Criteria
- Must have been enrolled at the university during Fiscal Year 2020 or Fiscal Year 2021 and then had to take a break. Students who were enrolled prior to Fiscal Year 2020 and had to take a break will be considered for an award on an individual basis and as approved by the CFO.
- Have had a break in enrollment from East Stroudsburg University for four or more consecutive fall and spring semesters
- Must have earned 30 credits or more at East Stroudsburg University. Students who have earned less than 30 credits and had to take a break will be considered for an award on an individual basis and as approved by the CFO.
- Must have earned a GPA of 2.5 or better at the time they left East Stroudsburg University
- Have an outstanding balance from prior semesters due to the university before having stopped-out
- Must resume classes in the Fall 2023 semester.
Continuing Eligibility Criteria
- Once enrolled in the Returning Warrior Program, students must continue to meet the terms of the program as outlined below. Failure to do so will result in the student being removed from the program and any outstanding balance will remain due to the University.
Application Process
- The Returning Warrior Program application must be completed by the former student and submitted within two weeks of receiving notice that they might be qualified for participation in the program.
- Terms of the Returning Warrior Program

Once the student receives notification that they have been accepted into the program the student must:
- Meet with their academic advisor to create an academic plan to determine what courses need to be completed to earn their undergraduate degree
- Continue to meet with their academic advisor before each fall and spring semester to review and update their academic plan in anticipation of registration for the next semester
- Enroll in a minimum of 12 credits (or at a minimum, the number of credits still needed to earn their degree)
- Meet with a Financial Aid Advisor to create a financial plan to address future term tuition and fees.
- Continue to meet with a Financial Aid Advisor before each fall & spring semester to review and update their financial plan.
- FAFSA must be completed and submitted each semester they are enrolled at the University.
- Complete all financial aid requirements.
- Students must continue to make satisfactory academic progress to remain in the program.
- Financial Support for Participants in the Returning Warrior Program

- If the student has three years remaining to complete their degree, the student’s award
will be disbursed as follows:
- Sophomore year – If the student returns as a sophomore and successfully completes that year, they will be awarded 50% of their student account balance outstanding at the time they left the university.
- Junior year – If the student successfully completes their junior year and is in academic good standing, they will be awarded 30% of their student account balance outstanding at the time they left the university
- Senior year – If the student successfully completes their senior year and is in academic good standing, they will be awarded 20% of their student account balance outstanding at the time they left the university
- If the student has two years remaining to complete their degree, the student’s award
will be disbursed as follows:
- Junior year – If the student returns as a junior and successfully completes that year, they will be awarded 60% of their student account balance outstanding at the time they left the university
- Senior year – If the student successfully completes their senior year and is in academic good standing, they will be awarded 40% of their student account balance outstanding at the time they left the university
- If the student has one year remaining to complete their degree, the student’s award
will be disbursed as follows:
- Senior year – If the student returns as a senior and successfully completes that year, they will be awarded 100% of their student account balance outstanding at the time they left the university
All awards toward the student’s account balance outstanding at the time they left the university will be applied at the end of the spring semester or, in the student’s senior year, the semester the student graduates.

will be disbursed as follows:
Other Scholarships/Awards
Participants in the Returning Warrior Program may qualify to have the East Stroudsburg University scholarships and awards they had at the time they left the university reinstated if they meet eligibility requirements for those other awards.
