East Stroudsburg University will arrange for qualified sign language interpreters and real time reporting (captioning) services for students, employees, and guests based upon documented disabilities and individual requests for auxiliary aids.
Individuals are required to make requests at least two weeks prior to the need of accommodation to ensure availability.
Students requesting interpreting services should discuss specific needs with the Office of Disability Services, employees and guests should discuss specific needs with the Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity. Any employee requesting services related to employment must contact the Human Resources Department.
Qualified sign language interpreters and captioning services can be requested for classes and academic college activities, such as tutoring, meetings with faculty, staff, counselors and advisors, or special programs.

Reason For Policy:
To insure equal access to all individuals while attending university events, including classes, activities and special programs.
A "qualified sign language interpreter” is an individual who provides interpreting or transliterating services to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and is state registered in compliance with ACT 57 of 2004.
Captioning is the process of converting the audio content of a television broadcast, webcast, film, video, CD ROM, DVD, live-event, or other productions into text and displaying the text on a screen, monitor, or other visual display system.
