Enrollment fluctuations over the last several years have created challenges for planning and budgeting. After an enrollment high of 7,353 (6,656 undergraduates and 677 graduates) in Fall 2011, numbers dropped to 6,943 (6,355 undergraduates and 588 graduates) in Fall 2012 and again to 6,778 (6,186 undergraduates and 592 graduates) in 2013. However, following a campus-wide effort to recruit and retain students, enrollment numbers have begun to improve. In Fall 2014, we had 6,819 students enrolled (6,203 undergraduates and 616 graduates), Fall 2015 we had 6,828 students enrolled (6,167 undergraduates and 661 graduates) and in Fall 2016 we had 6,830 student enrolled (6,159 undergraduates and 671 graduates).

Foreign Exchange Programs

In the past several years, ESU has established partnerships with a number of institutions around the world, including, but not limited to:

ESU is working with these institutions in various capacities including bringing international students to campus to diversify the student body and creating more opportunities for ESU students to study abroad.

General Education

ESU has identified and adopted seven general education learning outcomes necessitating reconfiguration of the general education program. The new general education program is a set of interrelated courses that provide experiences that may not otherwise be provided in a student's major degree program. This program is designed to improve competencies, broaden perspectives, and educate incoming degree-seeking students to become informed individuals, deliberate decision makers, and contributing citizens of a global society. The program consists of a 45-credit core, which includes a 36-credit "breadth" sequence and 9 additional credits in English composition, first year experience, and a health and wellness course.
