The national trend in professional live theatre, popular films, and television shows has been a revival in the genre of musical theatre.
To meet the interest of our students, courses in Musical Theatre are offered in the theatre department for general education requirements.
Additionally, students may major in theatre and select the Musical Theatre track.
The Musical Theatre track combines courses in theatre, music and dance, as meets the demands of this unique American art form.
In addition to a broad study of theatre techniques, students will study vocal performance, music theory and piano, as well as classes in important dance forms.
The department regularly produces full scale musicals and other theatre productions that include music and dance.
Some past productions include Dandelion, A Funny Thing Happen on the Way to the Forum, School House Rock Live!, Lucky Stiff, Alice Through the Looking Glass and a play with music, Blithe Spirit with Noel Coward cabaret songs.
Performance opportunities are open to all ESU students.
Performance roles are gained by audition and audition notices are posted each semester on the bulletin board in the Fine Arts building lobby.
Technical theatre roles are available to any interested students.
Design and technical leadership development opportunities are assigned to those ready for the specific challenges of the positions.
