The purpose of the Women of Color Initiative is to create a safe space for all women who self-identify as women of color during their academic journey at ESU.

During their time at ESU, they are provided with support, unification and a sense of community while working together to dismantle a variety of barriers that women of color frequently face.

WOCI prioritizes mentorship, academic excellence, self-awareness and student engagement as a basis for our women of color’s growth and development.

Mission

The mission of the Women of Color Initiative is to empower and develop dynamic women of color at East Stroudsburg University through purposeful guidance, leadership skill development, and celebration of unique differences.

Vision

The vision is to build strong independent women prepared to conquer the world.

By participating in this group, students will be able to explore their identity as women, appreciate their strengths and weaknesses, personal values, cultural appreciation, and find a community at ESU.

Goals

  1. Create a sense of belonging for every woman of color enrolled at ESU
  2. Empower women of color to be self-advocates in their own journey toward success
  3. Build connections to faculty and staff to enhance the overall experiences of women of color at ESU.
  4. Establish a clearinghouse for resources that best supports the growth and development of ESU’s women of color academically, socially, and personally
  5. Create safe spaces for dialogue with and among other women of color
