Tutoring

Tutorial services are available to all participants. Participants have the opportunity to work with ESU tutors during the summer, with ESU Upward Bound faculty during the Saturday College, and 24 hours a day via our live, online tutoring program, tutor.com

Students who have difficulty in a particular class will be required to attend tutoring but students who are doing well and wish to remain ahead in their classes are also encouraged to receive tutoring from ESU's undergraduate and graduate tutors.

Assessment and Advising

Students work individually with the administrative staff and instructors on areas such as personal inventories, career searches, high school course selection, resume writing, and study skills.

Exposure to Various Events

Students have attended plays, museum trips, whitewater rafting excursions, art exhibits, cultural diversity workshops and seminars, and have participated in community service activities.

Financial Advising

The administrative staff in conjunction with ESU's financial aid office works with the students and their parents to complete federal financial aid forms and search for scholarships.

SAT Prep

Each year junior and senior students are provided a prep course to help them with the SAT exam.

In addition, ESU's Upward Bound provides students with fee waivers which relieve students and their parents from the financial responsibility of having to pay for the SAT.

College Tours

Program participants visit a number of institutions of higher ed. Students tour campuses, meet with students and faculty, and make direct contact with the college or university's admissions department.

College Application and Selection

In Senior Seminar, each student is assisted in selecting a college, composing the college essay, completing the application, preparing for a college interview, and in finalizing the life skills/study skills needed to master college life.

In addition, ESU's Upward Bound pays for three college application fee waivers per student, which would normally cost the parents/guardians/students, anywhere from $25.00 – $100.00 each.

Scholastic Advising

Our administrative staff maintains contact with students' guidance counselors and teachers to insure each student is obtaining courses necessary for college enrollment.
