Criminal Justice Minor
The 24-credit minor in Criminal Justice emphasizes the knowledge and skills necessary for students to think critically and to develop beginning skills in the criminal justice field.
The goal of the Criminal Justice Administration program is to provide students with the educational background necessary to pursue careers in Criminal Justice, and/or to pursue graduate study in criminology, criminal justice, law, or other related fields.
Why ESU for the Criminal Justice Minor?
- The minor not only complements the Sociology and Social Work majors offered in the department, but also many other majors across various related professional fields and disciplines.
- The minor emphasizes the knowledge and rigorous critical thinking/analysis of how criminal justice systems function in a diverse and dynamic society necessary for professional practice.
What will students learn to do?
- Students will learn the key aspects of the criminal justice system, in particular its primary sub-components: law enforcement, courts, corrections, and juvenile justice.
- In addition, the program offers an array of electives geared towards those interested in higher level critical criminological theory.
- Students will also be prepared to enter an array of Criminal Justice careers, as well as many of the related and/or overlapping human service systems affecting or affected by the criminal justice system.
- Criminal Justice minors also have a required internship affording an experiential learning opportunity for the integration of theory into practice.
