The academic calendar is divided into fall and spring semesters of approximately 15 weeks each and summer and winter sessions of varying length. The last week of the fall and spring semesters is set aside for final examinations.
The holidays and vacations observed by the university are noted below. Spring break is the week following the spring semester midterm.
August
- 10 Students can expect to see their bill with due date in MyESU portal after August 10
- 27 Residence Halls Open for Student with Prior Approval

September
- 3 Last Day to Drop Quarter 1 Course as No Grade
- 3 Last Day to Add Quarter 1 Course
- 4 Quarter 1 Withdraw (W) Grade Period Begins
- 7 Labor Day - No Classes
- 8 Classes Resume
- 8 Last Day to Drop Semester Course as No Grade
- 8 Last Day to Add Semester Course
- 9 Semester Withdrawal (W) Grade Begins
- 21 Priority Deadline to Submit "Intent to Graduate" (undergraduate) or (graduate) Application for Fall 2020 Graduation (December)
- 21 Priority Deadline to Submit "Intent to Graduate" (undergraduate) or (graduate) Application for Winter 2021 Graduation (January)

- 2 Last Day to Withdraw (W) from Quarter 1 Course
- 12 Fall Break - No Classes
- 13 Switch Day - Monday Schedule
- 13 Midterm Grade Links Open for Faculty
- 21 Quarter 1 Ends
- 22 Quarter 2 Begins
- 23 Faculty Deadline to Submit Midterm Grades to Registrar's Office by 9:00 AM
- 25 Last Day to Drop a Quarter 2 course as No Grade
- 25 Last Day to Add Quarter 2 Course
