The Global Week Logo

Something wrong with the logo? The world is upside down? Good.

Old models of the globe are said to have promoted up/superior and bottom/inferior mentalities, promoting inequality through cartography. For instance, we are used to seeing Latin America and Africa at the bottom, and America and Europe at the top. But why? The world has no up or bottom, it is floating in space, but we often attribute qualities of value because of location.

So what happens if we flip the world around. Is it wrong? Does it feel weird? The point of Global Week is to challenge those preconceived notions we have about equality, social justice and service. Maybe is good to flip our world view upside down and see ourselves through a difference lens.

Each year, the inside of the logo will change to showcase the theme for the year with a brand new design, but preserving the concept and framework of Global Week.

The Way of the Warrior

As part of the ESU community, we are committed to following the “7 Ways of the Warrior.” For this year’s Global Week, we are focusing on one of them: “A Warrior is . . . a Champion of Social Justice.”

Throughout the initiatives this week, and for the rest of the year, as Warriors we thrive each days to find a direct connection between the classroom and the real world. Part of that connection means using our intellect, gifts, and resources to champion equality in areas of need in our communities and around the world.
