Dialogue facilitators are undergraduate student workers who are trained in dialogue facilitation.

female students talking during DDP sessionThey work in pairs. After a training workshop, facilitators receive extensive feedback through session debriefs following each session.

The facilitator’s purpose is to spark dialogue among participants. Dialogue facilitators ensure that conversations are not hostile.

Facilitators do express not their personal opinions; they remain neutral and help participants articulate their opinions.

Dialogue session are sixty minutes long.

The ideal number of participants is ten to fifteen, though some sessions may be as large as twenty-five.

How to Become a DDP Facilitator

We always welcome new facilitators! Becoming a member of our team is easier than you might expect. Students interested in joining the DDP should contact any of the DDP executive team members listed on our DDP webpage, any of our DDP peer-facilitators, or the many professors who work with us by including DDP participation in their lesson plan. When you contact us, we will discuss with you what the position entails.

Meanwhile, we urge you to study our DDP website. It will provide you with the necessary background information on the DDP. We have included testimonials from DDP participants, our facilitators, as well as our executive team members. You can also peruse our facilitator handbook and the rules & regulations which guide DDP ‘dialogue’ sessions. We also offer materials explaining our learning philosophy as well as links to other diversity related ESU webpages. Finally, we include links to resources essays and articles on the ‘dialogue’ approach to diversity appreciation.

If you are invited to join our team, you will receive DDP-facilitator training. We will also assign you an executive team member as a mentor and “go-to” person. Additionally, you will have numerous opportunities to connect with your fellow DDP facilitators as well as debrief with your other facilitators and executive team member(s) after every DDP sessions.
