Assistant Director

The Residential Life & Housing staff is composed of an Assistant Director (AD), Resident Director (RD), Graduate Student Workers (GSW), Residents Advisors (RA), and Student Desk Worker (SDW).

Assistant Director

East Stroudsburg University's Assistant Director for Residential Life, Housing, and Dining (AD) is a seasoned, full-time professional with a master's degree who plays a key role in shaping your residential experience. Think of the AD as your go-to person for all things related to living on campus.

Here's what the AD does:

  • Leads the Residential Life Team: The AD supervises the Resident Directors, who are the friendly faces you see around your residence hall.
  • Keeps Things Running Smoothly: The AD oversees the Housekeeping staff and works with outsourced Facilities and Maintenance to ensure your living space is comfortable and well-maintained.
  • Connects You with Resources: The AD works closely with various departments on campus, including Housing Administration, University Facilities, Student Conduct and Community Standards, and University Police, to connect you with the resources you need to thrive at ESU.

In short, the AD is there to support a positive and successful living environment for all ESU residents.

Resident Director

The Resident Director (RD) is your on-campus champion, a full-time, master's-level professional dedicated to making your residence hall experience top-notch.

Think of the RD as:

  • Your Advocate: They're your first point of contact for any concerns or questions you have about living on campus. They'll connect you with the right resources from departments like Residence Life, Housing Administration, University Facilities, Student Conduct, and University Police.
  • Your Community Catalyst: The RD creates and implements programs that foster a vibrant and positive living-learning environment within your residence hall.
  • Your Leadership Coach: They work with student leaders to build strong relationships, turning your residence hall into a thriving community. Their goal? To ensure you feel safe, supported, and empowered to succeed.

So, if you have any questions, need help navigating campus resources, or just want to connect with someone who cares about your well-being, your RD is there for you!

Graduate Student Worker

Graduate Student Workers (GSW) are master level students employed to support the vision of Residential Life & Housing.

Supervised by Resident Director, GSWs provide additional oversight to the student leaders within residential community.

Through the supervision of student staff, advising of community boards, addressing behavioral concerns, and the administration of residential curriculum within the residence halls, GSWs play major roles in the growth and development of community within residential spaces.

GSWs are required to work no more than 20 hours per week. Depending on their assignment, GSWs may provide oversight to our smaller halls, while others assist in the supervision of our suites and apartments.

Compensation for GSWs include a tuition waiver for ESU approved coursework, a stipend and an on-campus apartment for their remuneration.

Resident Advisor

Resident Advisors (RA) are critical participants of the residential experience.

As model community members, Resident Advisors directly engage students on their floors/halls/wings in the areas of mentorship, student development, advising, behavior, and academic achievement.

RAs participate in a duty rotation, ensuring that residents have immediate access to hall personnel to address emergent matters.

RAs also promote academic and co-curricular programming and act as a general resource for students at ESU.

Resident Advisors work 20 hours per week, are wage employees, and receive free housing as a part of their compensation package.

Student Desk Worker

Residential Student Desk Worker (SDW) are student employees that serve and support the living experiences of residents every day.

SDWs function as desk receptionists, operating as the first line of security at the entrances of each building. SDWs are excellent resources for residents in need of support from hall staff and/or police. In addition, SDWs administer mail and parcel delivery to our centralized stations within the residence halls and at our University Center.

SDWs work midday and evening hours in traditional and suite-style buildings seven days a week.
