New D2L Tools! Creator+ (with H5P), Lumi Pro, & Atomic Search

Creator+ is a content-creation toolkit built right into the Brightspace editor, offering 50+ interactive activity types like flip cards, click-and-reveal, branching scenarios, and drag-and-drop exercises. To access Creator+, create a new file or edit an existing content page, and look for the Creator+ Authoring Tools (paintbrush/pencil icon) in the toolbar. To access/insert H5P content, create a new file or edit an existing content page, then choose H5P from the "Insert Stuff" menu (Play/Pause/Circle/Square icon) to create, edit, or insert an H5P activity.

Lumi for Creator+ is an AI tool built into the Creator+ package that generates ready-to-use practice activities, like fill-in-the-blank and other interactive question types, based on your existing course content. To use it, look for the Lumi option within the Creator+ authoring tools when building a Practice activity; you'll be able to review and edit everything before it's added to your course.

Lumi Pro is a broader AI content-generation toolkit built into Brightspace that helps you create quiz questions, assignment ideas, discussion prompts, and module summaries from your existing materials. You will be able to access it directly within the relevant tool (for example, in the Quizzes or Discussions panel) where you would select the content you'd like Lumi Pro to reference, and it generates a draft for your review. Every suggestion is editable and requires instructor review before it's added to your course.

Atomic Search is a full-text search tool for your course content, accessible through the search bar in your course navigation, where you can search by keyword, phrase, or wildcard. Unlike Brightspace's built-in navigation, which only searches titles, Atomic Search looks inside your files and pages, so you and your students can actually find that PDF or discussion post buried in your content section.

Past D2L Updates

  • D2L also had added the option to add a quiz to the course calendar. When creating or editing a quiz, under the section labeled “Availability Dates & Conditions” there is a check box that, when selected, will add an upcoming quiz to the course calendar.
  • Starting July 2025, ESU’s Desire2Learn (D2L) online platform will receive an update to its Quiz evaluation view. When faculty grade a quiz through the Quizzes tool, they will see a new layout for reviewing and grading individual student attempts. This layout should not change the function of the tool or how questions are graded. D2L rearranged the page design to make the quiz evaluation feature easier to use and to match previous updates made to the Discussion and Dropbox evaluation tools. To see the new layout and read more about this change, please visit the posted overview on the D2L Product Blog.
