Dr. Jim Barry, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Physical Education Teacher Education department at East Stroudsburg University. A proud ESU graduate, he brings more than 20 years of experience teaching in both public schools and higher education. His professional background is rooted in his work at Hatfield Elementary School in the North Penn School District, where he taught physical education and was recognized as the Southeast District Elementary Teacher of the Year. His experience also includes Adapted Physical Education, with a strong focus on inclusive practices that support all learners.

Dr. Barry frequently presents at local, state, and national educational conferences, working with teachers to integrate movement into classroom instruction and create safe, inclusive learning spaces. His work has been recognized with a Professional Honor Award from the Pennsylvania State Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. He is actively involved in professional organizations as a Past President of SHAPE Maryland and a current board member of SHAPE Pennsylvania. Dr. Barry’s research focuses on teacher preparation, adapted physical education, advocacy for physical education, physical activity, and international teaching.

Outside of the classroom, Dr. Barry enjoys spending time outdoors, cheering on Philadelphia sports teams, and traveling experiences that continue to help shape his perspective on lifelong physical activity, inclusion, and learning.

Dr. Zhang is currently working as a professor of physical education in East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania in the U.S. Prior to this position, Dr. Zhang received his Ph. D from the Ohio State University in 2008 and was awarded as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) in 2014.

Up to date, Dr. Zhang has published more than 20 manuscripts in SCI and SSCI journals including Journal of Teaching in Physical Education, The Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness, Journal of Physical Activity and Health, BMC Public Health, and Journal of Human Sport and Exercise and he has made more than 40 presentations at international, national, and reginal conferences.

Dr. Zhang has been a reviewer for 11 peer-reviewed journals and conferences. In 2018 Dr. Zhang received an Excellent Teaching Award by the International Chinese Society for Physical Activity and Health (ISCPAH).

The Research Consortium of SHAPE AMERICA awarded Dr. Zhang as a Research Fellow for the professional organization of Physical Education and Sport Coaching in the U.S. in 2019.
