Mission Statement

The primary purpose of Stony Acres is to serve as a recreation site and field campus for the students, faculty and staff of East Stroudsburg University in support of the Institution’s educational and service mission.

Stony Acres strives to administer facilities, programs and services that encourage the pursuit of outdoors recreational activity, promote co-curricular involvement, foster leadership development, and provide social opportunities.

Stony Acres provides similar opportunities on a contractual basis, for community and business organizations.

Stony Acres Scholarship!

Stony Acres offers two annual scholarships with a value of up to a $1000.00 each in the Spring semester. This scholarship can be used toward the students’ tuition for either the summer or fall/spring semesters as long as the student is enrolled full time. 

The scholarship committee reserves the right to reward a partial scholarship if deemed appropriate.

Students can apply for the scholarships throughout their pursuit of their undergraduate degree however they are only eligible to win the scholarship once. Learn More

Stony Acres is 119 acre wildlife sanctuary located in Marshalls Creek, Pennsylvania.

It offers recreational activities for ESU students, staff and faculty throughout the year.

Additionally, the facilities can be rented and programs can be organized for outside groups on a contractual basis.

Stony Acres offers events to the ESU community as well as the following:

  • Camping in six rustic cabins, each which can accommodate eight people
  • The Lodge for workshops, meetings, banquets, or retreats for over 125 people
  • A fire pit, picnic tables and two pavilions
  • Quality outdoor equipment FREE of charge for ESU students, staff and faculty-equipment for camping, backpacking, cross country skiing, sports, ice skating, and other recreational activities
  • Hiking and interpretive nature trails
  • Frisbee golf course
  • Horseshoe pits
  • Volleyball courts
  • Large field for games
  • Pond for fishing, canoeing or ice skating
  • Challenge Course: trust building, group initiatives, high and low elements
  • 30ft foot Climbing Tower for rock climbing
  • Recreational programs offered to ESU students, staff and faculty, such as ice skating, snow shoeing, fitness challenge, and team building to name a few
  • Hours of operation: Dawn to dusk for day use. Reservations are needed for overnight accommodations.

  1. Coming from the…
    1. South: Take RT 33 North to 4 lane RT 209 N (follow signs to 80 East). Take I80 East to exit 309 (RT 209) Marshalls Creek exit.
    2. East or West: Take 80 (West/East) to exit 309 Marshalls Creek exit.
  2. Follow RT 209 North through 2 stop lights, approximately 2.8 miles to the traffic circle.
  3. At the traffic circle follow RT 209 north toward Milford.
  4. In approximately 1 mile make a left at the first light toward Marshalls Creek, Milford Road, and RT 209 South.
  5. Follow 209 south for 1/2 mile and make a right at the first light.
  6. In Approximately 20 yards you will cross a small bridge and bear left at the “Y” onto Marshalls Creek Road. There is an old tan firehouse in the middle of the “Y”. Route 402 bears to the right, you bear LEFT!
  7. Travel approx 4.5 miles on Creek Road and Stony Acres will be on your left. This is approx 1/2 mile past the second open grate bridge on Marshalls Creek Road.
  8. Travel up driveway and make a right between fences.
