Financial aid is available to eligible, continuing ESU students enrolled in the summer semester.  Information on how to qualify and apply for summer aid is listed below.

Summer 2026 is a part of the 2025-26 aid year. If you are thinking about taking a summer course here at ESU and would like to qualify for aid, you must complete the 2025-2026 FAFSA. Our School Code is: 003320. The last day to complete the 2025-2026 FAFSA is June 30, 2026.

The Office of Financial Aid determines the summer cost of attendance based upon the classes enrolled for and the period over which those classes take place. This cost includes any necessary expenses students incur, such as tuition & fees, housing & meals, books, and personal expenses. Since our summer enrollment periods vary based on the classes a student is enrolled to take,  the costs will be prorated.

Students are required to be enrolled at least half-time (6 or more credits) to be eligible for most financial aid. Eligible Federal Pell Grant recipients may be enrolled less than half-time.

Incoming freshmen who have been properly admitted to ESU may take summer courses; however, financial aid is generally not available to help cover the costs incurred.

The Office of Financial Aid will determine eligibility for all ESU Students based on level of need, which is identified by completing the FAFSA.

  • If you qualify for the Federal Pell Grant and enroll for Summer 2026, you may be eligible for summer Pell. Eligibility for the grant would be automatically determined based on the number of hours you enroll for and the period you are attending. Use of Summer Pell will be counted in your lifetime aggregate maximum, but should not affect your eligibility if you are graduating in normal period of time.
  •  Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress to qualify for summer Pell. Progress is determined at the conclusion of each  semester.

Students who are eligible for the Pennsylvania State Grant may choose to apply for the Summer Award.

  • To qualify for this award, you must take at least 6 credits in the summer term and be enrolled for no less than 5 consecutive weeks.

Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans

To qualify for Federal Direct Subsidized or Unsubsidized loans in the summer, students must be making satisfactory academic progress, be registered at least half-time for the summer semester, and have remaining eligibility for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Students must complete a Federal Loan Adjustment form in their Warriors Connect Portal.  Please contact the Office of Financial Aid and speak to a counselor who will review your account and determine if you have remaining eligibility.  If you do, the Federal Loan Adjustment form will be added to your required documents for you to complete.

Federal Direct PLUS Loan

A Federal Direct Parent PLUS loan allows you to borrow up to the full cost of attendance minus any other financial aid. Like other federal student loans, PLUS loans offer a variety of flexible repayment plans.  Parents may apply for a parent PLUS loan at https://studentaid.gov a credit check will be required for this loan.

A Federal Direct Graduate PLUS loan may be taken by a graduate student who has borrowed federal loans in the past.  Graduate students wishing to borrow under the graduate PLUS Loan must have borrowed for their current program prior to July 1, 2026 to be eligible under the Graduate PLUS Loan program.   To apply, please login to https://studentaid.gov

Private loans are a viable option for addressing summer costs when federal loan options have been exhausted.  Information about private loans may be found at ELMSelect.  Private loans vary widely from lender to lender.  Please read all disclosure materials carefully, understand the loan terms and select the loan that best fits your needs.  You are welcome to use any lender you choose.  ESU does not recommend lenders to students.

Disbursements begin after the add/drop period and continue throughout the summer semester. The timing of your aid disbursement is based on your enrollment and course start date. For questions on your disbursement date, please contact FA@esu.edu
