Students interested in engineering have two options at ESU.
In the Engineering Transfer dual-degree program, students start at ESU and then transfer to an accredited engineering
school (students should check with the ESU engineering coordinator to discuss the
courses needed for their particular area). Upon completion of this program, which
typically takes five years (three at ESU and two at the engineering school), the student
can obtain two degrees, one from the engineering school and a B.S. in Physics from ESU. The B.S.
in Physics is contingent upon successful completion of the engineering degree (engineering
technology not eligible) and requirements specific to the ESU degree (ESU catalog
provides a complete list of the requirements).
A student may transfer to any accredited engineering school to complete their engineering
degree (e.g., within the past four years, we’ve had students transfer to Temple, Rutgers,
Penn State, Lehigh, and NJIT). A student can transfer to PSU if several conditions
are met, such as maintaining a 3.0 GPA. Only certain branches of engineering are available
at PSU.
You can review the list of programs available at Penn State. Penn State also offers several engineering programs housed
within their Earth and Mineral Sciences division. Of these, Petroleum and Natural
Gas Engineering is also under enrollment control. Penn State reserves the right to
change that list during a student's first year at ESU.
In the Bachelor of Science in Physics program, students complete the four-year program at ESU with a concentration in industrial physics. This prepares students for careers in industry that require a strong background
in physics. The first three years of the industrial physics concentration mirrors
the first three years of the Engineering Transfer concentration. After graduating
from the four-year industrial physics program, students can then enter the work force
or complete a graduate program in engineering.
