Counseling and Psychological Services is open for appointments from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Appointments generally last 50 minutes. We may be able to accommodate appointments before or after normal business hours in special situations.
We schedule your appointment on the hour to last about 50 minutes. This allows ten minutes in between clients for our counselors and allows you to get to class on time.
All East Stroudsburg University students are eligible for services at CAPS. To be considered an ESU student you must presently be enrolled in at least one course.
You may choose your counselor. You may also request to see a male or female counselor. We want all of our clients to feel comfortable and happy here at CAPS. Keep in mind that special requests may result in increased wait time for a first appointment.
If you do not feel comfortable with your current counselor, you may switch. We do ask that you let your current counselor know that you will be switching, if you are comfortable enough to do so. This way your current counselor knows that you are still receiving services but with a different counselor. All of our counselors understand the importance of a good fit between the student and counselor.
All of the counselors are able to help you in all areas of mental health.
No, there is not a psychiatrist on staff at CAPS that can prescribe medication. If the need for medication arises, your counselor will assist you in making an appointment referral.
