Chinese Language and Culture
Familiarity with Chinese (Mandarin) has rapidly become a valuable asset for new graduates seeking employment in many fields. ESU's minor equips students with language skills and vital cultural context to meet the high market demand for this credential.
Students take two kinds of courses, Chinese language and co-requisites in relevant political, historical, or cultural topics.
Study abroad credits are evaluated and applied toward the requirements of this minor. Fortunately, ESU has longstanding ties with several Chinese universities, and recently pioneered an internship abroad in Shanghai. Our department's co-chair, Dr. Tim Connolly (Philosophy), is a Chinese-speaker who has led trips abroad to a variety of destinations in China.
