With a degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, you’ll understand how communication develops, how it can be disrupted and how to support individuals across diverse settings. You’ll explore speech and language development, hearing science, communication disorders and clinical methods while gaining early exposure to professional settings through observation and supervised experiences.

Learned Skills

  • Understand typical and disordered speech, language, and hearing development.
  • Apply foundational knowledge in phonetics, anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing, and audiology.
  • Observe and begin to practice evidence-based strategies for assessment and intervention.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and interdisciplinary professionals.
  • Develop cultural and linguistic sensitivity to support diverse individuals and communities.

Internships & Training

  • Gain early clinical exposure through structured observation experiences on and off campus.
  • Engage with faculty mentors who are certified, experienced speech-language pathologists and audiologists.
  • Participate in community-based learning opportunities that connect coursework to real clients and service settings.
  • Build your résumé through volunteer work, research experiences and participation in student organizations.
