About the Program
In an effort to meet the needs of K-12 students, educators need the opportunity to obtain the knowledge, pedagogy and skills that enable them to provide rigorous, high quality online educational opportunities.
Through this four course program of study, candidates will be exposed to various aspects of online teaching and learning resulting in the creation of an online portfolio demonstrating proficiency in meeting the PDE competencies for online instruction. During the final two courses, students will work through embedded field experiences with an online professional. Students will experience the nuances of online instruction, gain valuable insight and hands-on experiences as an instructor of online learning.
All courses are offered 100% online to meet the needs of busy professionals. After the foundations course, courses 2-4 can be taken in any sequence.

The program culminates with the creation of an online portfolio demonstrating proficiency in meeting the PDE competencies for online instruction. In addition to the online portfolio, during the final two courses, students will work through embedded field experiences with an online professional. Students will experience the nuances of online instruction, gain valuable insight and hands-on experiences as an instructor of online leaning.
Once completed, the endorsement can be added to your existing PA instructional teaching certificate. For students pursuing a graduate degree, the online endorsement courses can be used towards the M.Ed. in Instructional Technology or Professional & Secondary Education.
Payment deferment opportunities are available to anyone whose employer reimburses the cost of tuition and/or fees.
Eligibility for PA Online Instruction Endorsement:To be eligible for the PA Online Instruction Endorsement, candidates must have a valid Level 1 or Level II teaching certificate at the time of application to the. - Foundation of Online Learning in the K-12 Environments (PSED 522)
This course will introduce the emerging pedagogy of online learning to currently certified K-12 teachers and other interested professionals.

- Online Tools and Strategies of Learner-Centered Classrooms (DMET 510)
In this course, participants will increase Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) to create lessons in various online learning environments. Synchronous meeting times model effective interaction for K-12 teachers.

- Instructional Design for Effective Learning (DMET 530)
Instructional Design (ID) is a systematic process used to analyze learners' needs, and then, develop, design, and evaluate instructional materials. Participants will create a learning unit based on student identified learning goals. Synchronous meeting times model effective interaction for K-12 teachers.
- Assessing Students in K-12 Online Learning Environments (PSED 523)
This course presents the key concepts with regard to design and implementation of appropriate assessment in K-12 online learning environments.
