Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility

ESU’s Ed.D program is approved to award the Pennsylvania Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility. Successful completion of coursework with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA meets the Pennsylvania Department of Education requirements for mastery of leadership standards. Students seeking the Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility should be aware of these additional requirements:

  • Completes a 360-hour internship experience aligned with the Pennsylvania Department of Education requirements for the superintendency
  • Meets the requirements set forth in 24 P.S. § 12-1209 relating to good moral character
  • Provides verification of six (6) years of satisfactory school experience, of which at least three must be in a supervisory or administrative capacity
  • Provides evidence of satisfactory achievement on the Pennsylvania-required test (currently the PRAXIS)

Although ESU is not an approved provider for the state of New Jersey, the New Jersey Department of Education maintains reciprocity with Pennsylvania for administrative certificates.
