M.Ed. in Professional and Secondary Education, Professional Education track

I graduated in August, 2020, with a Masters Degree in Professional and Secondary Education.  The summer of my graduation I was offered a position as a 7th/8th grade science teacher at Wells Junior High School in Wells, Maine.  I felt extremely prepared and confident as I interviewed for this position because of the education I received at ESU.  As a first year teacher I already had an expansive tool box of teaching resources at my disposal.  I realized after only a short time that there are always going to be situations you are not prepared for when teaching, but the PSED program provided me with a solid foundation to face those types of challenges head on.

The PSED program prepared me for a career in teaching not only through academics but through experiential learning.  I was immersed into a program that encouraged innovation, critical thinking, creativity, autonomy and professionalism.  I learned by being challenged enough to come out of my comfort zone (technology) but not too much so as to become discouraged.

While attending ESU, I always felt that I had supports around me to help me be successful and that my professors were rooting for me.  Throughout my coursework, student teaching and job interviewing, they were there to support me.  The professors in the PSED department have extensive experience and knowledge to share.  They are an invaluable resource to prospective teachers and I was lucky to have the opportunity to learn from them.

I feel that whether you are already a teacher and are pursuing the next step or are headed into a brand new career of teaching, the experiences you have at ESU will undoubtedly prepare you to be a successful teacher and will provide you with the tools to ensure your future students are successful as well.
