The College of Education Commencement Ceremony will be held on May 8th, 6:00 p.m.

Congratulations graduating graduate and undergraduate students! You are approaching the end of a great and important journey and milestone in your academic life. Please join us in celebrating your achievements at the upcoming ceremony.

Graduates' Preparation for Commencement Day

All graduates should arrive wearing cap and gown to the Mattioli Recreation Center where staff members from the Student Enrollment Center will assist in lining up for the ceremony. ALL graduates must be in full academic attire to participate.

Graduates should not bring any personal possessions (purses, cameras, etc.) to the stadium. Such items should be given to your guests for safekeeping, as there is no secure area to keep your valuables. ESU is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen items. We also ask that all cell phones are turned off during the ceremony unless there is an emergency.

Smoking is not permitted in any of the facilities. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on ESU’s campus. Beach balls and air horns are not permitted in the stadium and their use is prohibited during the ceremony. Heels are not permitted on the track or field turf in the stadium.

Participation in the commencement ceremony does not constitute verification of graduation. A student must satisfactorily complete all requirement before a degree is awarded.

  • Cap and Gown

    Each participant must be dressed in academic attire including gown and a matching cap.

    Academic attire for undergraduate students must be purchased through the University Bookstore. The cap should be worn flat on the top of the head, with the top of the cap parallel to the floor. The tassel should hang on the right side of the cap. The robe should be pressed.

    If you are unable to come to the campus in person, you may have your academic attire shipped to you for a fee. The attire will be yours to keep.

    There will be no extra attire available at the ceremony.

    Cap and gown will be shipped directly to your home within 3 weeks.

    To ensure delivery by April 30, 2021 orders must be placed by April 10, 2021.

    If you are local, you may also stop into the University Store to purchase a cap and gown during business hours. However, for online orders, customers must use the website for Oak Hall.

    • Bachelor Package: $47.00 + tax (Cap/Gown/Tassel).
    • Master Package: $86.00 + tax (Cap/Gown/Hood/Tassel).

  • Graduation Honors for Undergraduates

    In order to qualify for graduation honors, a student must have completed at least 45 credits at East Stroudsburg University. These 45 credits can be accrued through any course, internship and/or field placement including student teaching in which a letter grade is assigned (A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D or E) or a satisfactory grade is ascribed. The check for the 45-credit minimum includes in-progress courses during the student’s graduation semester. The check for the student’s cumulative grade point average is based on all graded coursework.

    Students who have the appropriate cumulative grade point average at the time the honors designation is determined, and who will have met the 45-credit minimum once the final semester is completed, will be granted graduation honors as follows:

    • Summa Cum Laude Cumulative grade point average 3.80 or above
    • Magna Cum Laude Cumulative grade point average 3.60 to 3.799
    • Cum Laude Cumulative grade point average 3.40 to 3.599

    Graduation honors for the publication of the Commencement Program are based on all graded and in-progress coursework at East Stroudsburg University by the deadline dates below. Please note that graded coursework contains final grades and not midterm grades.

    March 15 of the academic year for spring and summer graduation or November 1 for fall and winter graduation.

    The official university transcript will carry the final honors designation based on all finalized grades completed at the university and the outcome of the final graduation clearance.

  • Diplomas

    Graduates will receive a diploma cover (or scroll for the class of 2020) at the Commencement ceremony. Actual diplomas will be mailed to graduates after degrees are conferred, approximately six to eight weeks after grades are posted.

    Please note that students must have all financial obligations to ESU satisfied before their diplomas are mailed.

ESU Welcomes Guests to Commencement

Anyone attending the commencement ceremonies in Eiler-Martin Stadium must have a ticket. Additional family members and friends may view the ceremony via live streamed from the commencement page. Masks and Social Distancing is required on campus and throughout the event. Re-entry to the ceremony is not allowed.

  • Tickets

    Undergraduate and graduate level students approved to graduate for the May 2021 ceremonies will be mailed two (2) tickets to their permanent home address currently on file. Please report address change for ticket mailing to graduation@esu.edu.

    Please note that infants and children will also need a ticket to attend the ceremony. No additional tickets are available. Re-entry to the ceremony is not allowed.

  • Photographs

    Guests are to remain seated throughout the entire ceremony and are not to stand on their seats to take pictures during the ceremony. This is expected of graduates, as well. There will be ample opportunities for picture-taking, presenting flowers, and other activities immediately following the ceremony.

    Graduates will be photographed as they receive their diploma covers (or scrolls for Class of 2020).

    Each graduate will receive an email from GRADIMAGES with a photo proof within five days of graduation, along with the opportunity to select from a variety of photo packages. There is no obligation to purchase photos.

Conclusion of Commencement Exercises

At the end of the ceremony please arrange to have your guests meet you either outside or at another location on campus so that all graduates can leave the stadium in a timely and orderly manner.

Graduates will exit the arena through the visiting team entrance/exit side of the stadium. It is suggested that graduates plan in advance where to meet family and friends outside the Eiler-Martin Stadium once the ceremony has ended.

Important Information about CDC Guidelines and COVID19

The safety, health, and well-being of students, staff, and their families is our top priority. ESU continues to follow the CDC guidelines for public and private universities when planning the 2021 commencement ceremonies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

All individuals in attendance must wear a face covering. We also ask everyone attending the ceremony to stay at least 6 feet away from all other people who are not part of your household, including while seated. Students will be seated at least 6 feet apart from one another and be spaced by 6 feet while queuing to enter, cross the stage, or exit.
