Course Syllabus
Course Title: Horseback Riding I
Instructor: Dr. Casebolt Phone: 3230
This course includes the skills necessary in developing a safe and secure seat with effective use of the aids for the English style if riding. Students learn the fundamentals of handling a horse and tack safely and appropriately on and off the ground.
1. The student will successfully be able to bridle, saddle, and groom a horse.
2. The student will understand safety procedures associated with riding.
3. The student will understand the different speeds of riding a horse.
4. The student will learn how to execute turns and passes on a horse.
5. The student will learn how to ride the horse backwards.

D. Class Policies
Each student is permitted one (2) absence. A student taking more than 1 absence will fail the class.
Each student is responsible for information missed during his or her absence.
Each student is responsible for wearing appropriate attire for physical activity.

F. Course Evaluation
1. Participation: each student is allowed one absence. More than one, excused or not, will result in failure.
2. Skills: Students will be evaluated on their knowledge of riding by execution of riding an obstacle course.
3. This course is graded on a pass/fail basis.
