THEACADEMIC STANDARDS

Physical Science, Chemistry and Physics ÉÉÉÉÉÉ.        3.4

A.    Matter* (relevant section for scope of this project)

B.      Energy

C.     Forces and Motion

D.    Astronomy

¤         From the Introduction of this document, one gathers that it describes what students should know and be able to do in the area of Physical Science, Chemistry and Physics, which is the relevant section of the Academic Standards in light of this project.

¤         The standards describe what the students should know by the end of fourth (4th), seventh (7th), tenth (10th) and twelfth (12th) grade. For the scope of this project, the standards for tenth (10th) grade shall be applied.

¤         The document states, ÒTeachers shall expect that students know and can apply the concepts and skills expressed at the preceding level. Consequently, previous learning is reinforced but not re-taught.Ó

STANDARDCATEGORY

* (relevant section for scope of this project)

3.4    Physical Science, Chemistry and Physics

INTENTOF CATEGORY 3.4

* (relevant section for scope of this project)

STANDARDSTATEMENT

* (relevant section for scope of this project)

3.4.10. GRADE 10

PennsylvaniaÕs public schools shall teach, challenge and support every student to realize his or her maximum potential and to acquire the knowledge and skills needed toÉ

  1. Explain concepts about the structure and properties of matter.

STANDARDDESCRIPTORS/BENCHMARKS (to show the nature and scope of standard) * (relevant section for scope of this project)

¤         Explain the repeating pattern of chemical properties by using the repeating patterns of atomic structure within the periodic table.

CONCLUSION

¤         Since the existing benchmarks for the PA Academic Standard for Chemistry at middle school level address the 10thgrade, the scope of educational content and the target audience for this project shall be the 10th grade.

¤         The instructional/educational goal of this project shall be redefined in the summary below:

CHEMIKAZE¨ : INSTRUCTIONAL/EDUCATIONAL GOAL

Category of PA Standards addressed by this project

3.4  Physical Science, Chemistry and Physics

Statement of PA Standard

to be met by this project

3.4.10. A.

GRADE 10

To teach, challenge and support every student to realize his/her maximum potential and to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to :

A.  Explain concepts about the structure and properties of matter.

Standard Benchmark

i.e. scope of Standard 3.4.10.A for focus in this project

Explain the repeating pattern of chemical properties by using the repeating patterns of atomic structure within the periodic table.
