Lecture will not be held Thursday, Nov. 1 as Dr. Jewett-Smith will be at a scientific meeting.
In place of the lecture, you should prepare answers for the following 10 questons.  Use your text book and the internet.  Your answers should contain sufficient information to provide a good study guide for the material which may be asked in part or whole on Exam 3.  You do not have to hand in your answers.

1.  What is geothermal energy, and how is that energy used to generate electricity.  Include examples.
2.  What are the pros and cons of wind energy?
3.  Where is the highest wind energy potential?  How good is the potential in Pennsylvania (by region)?
4.  What is passive solar heating?  Active solar heating?
5.  What is a PV system and how is it connected to a house?
6.  How is biomass used to generate electricity?  Include in your answer ethanol and methane production.
7.  What are the major environmental issues associated with biomass as an energy source?
8.  What part can energy conservation play in future energy needs?
9.  What future technologies might resolve some of the energy needs?
10.  Hydropower is an important source of energy in some countries.  Discuss the 3 Gorges dam project and the pros and cons of the project's environmental impact and human impacts.
