The El Zota Field station
was a logging camp. The current owner of the property, Hiner Ramirez,
has been upgrading the facilities and adding more student cabins.
Currently there are beds for up to 40 students and 6 faculty at the station.
Each bunk room has a modern bathroom attached with flush toilets and showers.
Currently the showers are cold, but after a long day in the forest, a cold
shower is welcome. |

Students sleep in single size
bunk beds. Some bring mosquito bed nets for their beds. |
Lecture

 |
Lectures are held in a large
lecture hall. Electricity from a generator at the station powers
the overhead projector and battery chargers. Students should bring
extra rechargeable batteries for their flashlights and CD players. |

Meals at El Zota are prepared
by the station staff and served cafeteria style. The cuisine is traditional
Costa Rican: rice and beans are a staple, along with fresh fruits like
pineapple, banana, mango and papaya. |
