- Internships are an integral part of both majors
- Internships are real-world jobs with companies, local to
federal agencies and non-governmental agencies.
- Most internships are paid ($7 - 10/hr).
- Where you do your internship can be from the local park to the
ends of the globe. Previous interns have worked in the western
US, Peru, Costa Rica, Australlia and South Africa. Placements
have included GPS surveys of endangered species, cruzing timber, fire
education on tribal lands, great white shark biology,
conservation of macaws in the Peruvian rainforest, environmental
education, sampling and analysis of stream and lake water quality and
invasive species mapping. Some positions are predominantly
indoors, some mostly outdoors and some a mix of both.
- The ENVS program maintains a database of these internship
opportunities, now listing over 100 sites with contact information.
- Many interns are offered positions by the internship providers.
- BS majors can take up to 6 hours of internship, BA majors up to
10 hours. These hours also count as upper level courses and
figure into your QPA.
- Internships are graded on 4 components: biweekly reports, daily
journal, final report, supervisor evaluation.
