Tasks and Questions for Size laboratory  Due Thursday of Finals Week

In the results section the following things should be presented (there is additional data that will need to be included in tables)    1. Graph Log of molecular weight VS Rf for the standards on the SDS PAGE (66 45 33 21 Kd    2. Graph Log of molecular weight VS fraction of highest absorbence for the gel filtration column    3. Calculate where the SDS Standards would fall on the Gel filtration column.    4.  Determine the molecular weights of all the samples on the SDS PAGE gel At a minimum the following Questions should be addressed in the Discussion section of your report.   Compare what happened to the BSA in Lane 1 land 3 in the standard What limitations does this put on SDS page   What happened to the Standards for gel filtration when they were run on SDS-PAGE There is a fundamental difference in the techniques that causes this please describe the difference in one or two sentences  Which technique would you use to determine the molecular mass of the functional structure of human glutamine synthase a protein that contains 8 identical subunits? Which would you use to determine the size of the subunits?  The molecular mass for hexokinase is given as 100 kd what happened.
