Objectives and Homework for October 13, 2005.
[1] Be able to calculate transmission and reflection coefficients from simple step potentials.
[2] Understand the normal Zeeman Effect, and be able to explain how it arises.
[3] Understand what is meant by intrinsic spin, and know the intrinsic spins of various common particles.
[4] Understand the spin properties and statistics of bosons and fermions. Be able to give examples of phenomena that illustrate the statistics properties of various particles.
Homework due Tuesday, October 18, 2005.
[1] Do Problems 38 and 43 at the end of Chapter 7 (p. 248) in Thornton & Rex.
[2] Read Section 8.1 in Thornton & Rex.
[3] Do Problems 7, 8, and 9 at the end of Chapter 8 (p. 270) in Thornton & Rex.
[4] Study for Quiz 2, to be given in class on Tuesday, October 18!
