Objectives and Homework for September 27, 2005.


[1] Know the results of the Double Slit Experiment, both at moderate intensities and at low intensities.  Be able to explain what these results imply.

[2] Know what is meant by the terms “Eigenstate” and “Stationary State”.

[3] Understand the concept of an “operator”.

[4] Be able to calculate arbitrary expectation values, given sufficient information.

[5] Understand the results when the Schrodinger Equation is applied to the infinite square well, finite square well, and harmonic oscillator potentials in arbitrary dimensions.

[2] Do Problems 10, 14, 16, 20, and 21 at the end of Chapter 6 (p. 219) in Thornton & Rex.
