Objectives and Homework for September 9, 2005.
[1] Know the DeBroglie wave relation, and know why DeBroglie was motivated to propose it.
[2] Be able to explain how Davisson & Germer confirmed DeBroglie's hypothesis.
[3] Understand the mathematics of waves.
[4] Understand what is meant by a wavepacket, and understand how wavepackets necessarily lead to uncertainty relations.
[5] Understand what a Fourier Transform is.
[6] Understand the concepts “dispersive medium”, “phase velocity”, and “group velocity”.
Homework due Tuesday, September 13, 2005.

[2] Do Problems 12, 18, 22, 30, 38, & 43 at the end of Chapter 4 (pp. 148-150) in Thornton and Rex.
