[1] Complete Experiment 1.4 on p.279 of your text.

[2] By using a compass, determine the location of the poles for each of your permanent magnets.  These poles are the positions of strongest attraction.  Label each pole with a piece of tape.

[3] Using your compass, determine the answer to the following question "Do like poles attract or repel?".

[4] Pole types are defined in the following way:  The pole of a magnet that points towards the Arctic region of the Earth is defined to be the North Pole.  The other pole is called the South Pole.  Label on your pieces of tape whether each pole is North or South.

[5] As Homework for Thursday, do Exercises 1.5 and 1.6 on p. 279.
