[1] Finish writing up Experiments 1.1 and 1.2, and Exercise 1.3, if you have not already done so. Hand them in when you are done. [2] Split up into your groups, and carry out the Group Activity that you prepared for today. When you have your result, give it to John so that it can be shared with the rest of the class. [3] Before you leave, make sure that you write down all of the data on water mixing from the various groups, and make sure that you turn in your Group write-ups for Experiments 1.1 and 1.2, and Individual answers to Exercises 1.3 and 1.6. [4] Homework to be turned in Monday, September 1:
Now predict the final temperature when 100 grams of water at 20 degrees Celsius is mixed with 50 grams of water at 41 degrees Celsius. Now suppose that you don't know the numerical values of the higher and lower temperatures, but simply call them TH and TC. If 50 grams of water at temperature TH is mixed with 50 grams of water at temperature TC, what do you think the final temperature will be? Would your answer to part (c ) change if the amounts of hot and cold water mixed together were NOT the same (that is, if they were not both 50 grams)? Explain. |
