Students:

We will be learning how to utilize the new eFolioPA web-based software in a computer lab session on February 25th.  Here are some specific things you can do to get ready for the lab – I’m not suggesting you come with any final write-ups or designs, but if you prepare and do a little research and planning before the lab, it will be a very worthwhile and productive experience:

1.      Create your account on the efolioPA site: Create efolioPA account

                Read the following:           Artifact Ideas

USING PEAKS

2.      Bring a jump drive to the lab that holds about 4-5 of your “artifacts” – artifacts are the items that provide documentation for the claims you make in your resume – these are the items that you will link to, through your web-based digital portfolio -- these could be Word docs covering reports/papers/flyers you’ve written, spread sheets, power points, jpg’s – any items, in electronic format, that will demonstrate the claims you’ve made in your resume (your resume, in fact, will likely be one of your artifacts) – if you bring a few documents on a jump drive, then you’ll have samples to work with as I teach you how to use the new eFolioPA software (the attached power point will provide more ideas on the types of artifacts you might use)

3.      Make some initial decisions on the basic structure or design of your digital portfolio (think of this as your first draft, a draft that will likely be modified many times as your portfolio evolves in the coming months and years) – to begin, this involves determining the basic tabs or “child links” or sections for your website – I have also attached a doc labeled PEAKS that may get you thinking about this topic – also, here are two links to digital portfolios I’ve created --

At the second link, you’ll see four tabs on the left column of this “made up” portfolio – they are “Homepage” “Resume” “Graduate Assistantship” and “Sport Management Club” – the organization and labels you pick for your portfolio are all up to you -- some clients use tabs that match the headings on their resumes – some have sections or child links based on skill sets, such as “organizational skills” “interpersonal skills” “writing and research skills” “athletics” “clinical experiences” “management skills” – consider these two questions a) what artifacts have you come up with? (step back, reflect, and take a look at your 4-6 artifacts in a holistic sense), and b) what headings or labels could you come up with to best group or organize your “artifacts”?

4.      The guidelines on how to create your efoioPA account are attached in a Word doc – this will take a couple minutes – be sure to have this completed prior to the lab – good luck!

If you have questions about any of these points, feel free to email me ( –mgodich@po-box.esu.edu) or call or email Dennis Steigerwalt everyone is prepared, we can get right to the training.

Your lab sessions will be held Feb 25 at 7 pm in Stroud 202 -- please arrive promptly – I look forward to working with you!
