Focus on specific transition points:
Pre-K to School; Middle to High School; High School to
Work; High School to College; College
to Work.
Questions guiding the work of the council:
· How can the K-16 Council assist in closing the gap between a student’s current level of performance and the expectations of the next level of performance?
· What academic and employability skills must be benchmarked at each exit transition point?
· What exit/entrance models need to be developed?
· How can we assist in identifying predictors for at-risk students and preventative strategies?
· What types of experiences must be developed to facilitate the training of teachers, professors, employers, and students?
· How can the K-16 Council assist in the design, implementation, and incorporation of these models?
·
How can the K-16 Council foster the monitoring of the progress and
success of the models?
Project 1: Facilitating
Concurrent Enrollment Programs for high school seniors, including both advanced
courses and developmental/remedial courses, through university, community
college, and school district collaboration to develop programs.
Project 2: Bridge
the testing gap for college/university English and math expectations, through
workshops and conferences focusing on the placement tests given to college
freshmen and the preparation high school seniors receive.
Project 3: Linking
the high school graduation project to the post-secondary transition to either
work or higher education, through exploring options for its use in college
admissions and business interviews.
