Admission Procedures

Policies and Procedures Concerning Admission of Students into the Major

There are 3 categories by which a student may be admitted into the Department of Recreation & Leisure Services Management as a major:

  • Entering freshman: a high school graduate who has not attended a college or university prior to admission to ESU and the department.
  • External transfer: a student enrolled or having been enrolled in a college or university other than ESU prior to admission to ESU and the department.
  • Internal transfer:  a student enrolled at ESU either as a declared major in another department, as an undeclared major, or as a non matriculated ESU student prior to admission to the department.
  • Entering freshman: the department shall adhere to the university-wide policy on entrance requirements. If a student in this category meets entrance requirements for the university as a whole, he/she shall meet requirements for entrance into the department as a major. Entering freshmen shall be approved by the Director of Admissions.

External transfer: The Director of Admissions shall review external transfer applications and shall admit a number of applicants consistent with the University's policy on enrollment ceilings. External transfers shall be approved after March 1 of each year on a best qualified basis following satisfactory completion of entrance requirements for the University. The department requires that transfer applicants have a minimum QPA of 2.25 if transferring 62 credits or more.

Internal transfer: the department requires that internal transfer applicants meet the following minimum overall cumulative Q.P.A. according to credits completed at ESU and other institutions:

    Credits Completed
    Min. Overall Cum. Q.P.A.
    0-61
    2.00
    62 and up
    2.25

ESU students who wish to change their major to Recreation will review their "Evaluation Checklist" with the department chair. The chair shall interview all applicants and verify the minimum cumulative Q.P.A. before admitting the student as a major.
