Method Effectiveness

0 Unable to promote student understanding of new and/or difficult concepts because the candidate does not allow students to explore the weaknesses and strengths of their own conceptions, fails to use appropriate and clear explanations, misjudges student weaknesses and strengths, or uses little or no higher-order questioning.
1 Uses explanations, activities and questions that are limited in their success because students are not allowed an opportunity to explore the weaknesses and strengths of their own conceptions, the candidate misjudges student weaknesses and strengths, or the questions or activities are too limited or low-level.
2 Promotes, with moderate success, student understanding of new and/or difficult concepts by using explanations, activities and a mix of higher-order and lower-order questions that are based on an accurate assessment of student conceptions, experiences, weaknesses and strengths, or provide students an opportunity to explore the weaknesses and strengths of their own conceptions.
3 Is consistently successful at promoting student understanding of new and/or difficult concepts by using explanations, activities and a mix of higher-order and lower-order questions that are based on student conceptions, experiences, weaknesses and strengths, and provide students an opportunity to explore the weaknesses and strengths of their own conceptions.
