NPWP Teacher Consultant Linda K. Rogers Publishes 3rd Book

Dr. Linda K. Rogers has written Shaped by the Standards: Geographic Literature Through Children's Literature  (2008), published by Teacher Ideas Press. It can be accessed via their website: www.teacherideaspress.com

This is the second book she has written for Libraries Unlimited. The first book Geographic Literature Through Children's Literature  was published in 1997 and organized by the five themes of Geography. She published Munchie Math, with her daughter Sarah. It was published by Scholastic in 2003.

Using the format of the Through Children's Literature  series of titles, Dr. Rogers expands the original series focus by discussing how instruction and the use of integrated children's literature is "Shaped by the Standards."

Arranged around the national standards strands in Geography, this book includes an introduction that explains the strands and the standards and includes 2-4 lesson plans for each strand. The author identifies and explains the performance expectations and provides literature text sets for each strand. Graphic organizers and other supporting materials are included within the chapters. Grades K-4

The end of the book contains an annotated bibliography of 200 titles. Each entry contains bibliographic information, a summary, and reference to the text set in which the book is listed. Most are picture story books, many are informational books, and a limited number are included as reference for the teacher because they are too sophisticated for the k-4 student.
