Overall CETPPA Project Subgoals:
Recruitment
1) Increase efforts at recruitment of underrepresented and minority
public school students to pursue careers in teaching science and mathematics
Course Revision
2) Revised selected university content courses taken by education students
to reflect research-based effective pedagogy.
3) Supplement science and mathematics methods courses with content.
Field Experiences
4) Provide supervision of science & math student teachers by content
& pedagogy specialists
5) Provide consistency in experiences received by science & math
education majors between their revised university courses, field experiences
& induction period
Local Team Goals:
Teacher Preparation Partnership - Student Cohort Groups:
1) Organize an advisory council of K-16 faculty and administrators.
2) Create cohort groups of graduate students who are seeking secondary mathematics or science certification and a masters degree.
3) Create cohort groups of undergraduate elementary education students.
4) Organize faculty exchanges between ESU faculty and K-12 faculty.
Teacher Enhancement Partnership - The Center for Science and Mathematics Education:
1) Organize an advisory council of K-16 faculty and administrators.
2) Serve as a regional demonstration and resource center for K-16 faculty and pre-service teachers.
3) Sponsor informative workshops.
4) Provide library of science and mathematics books and materials.
5) Offer professional support in developing appropriate web sites for information and networking and offering distance learning workshops and conferences.
6) Serve as a center for the recruitment of highly qualified teachers of mathematics and science.
