Dear Teaching Scholars Applicant:

Within this packet you will find a "Fact Pack" which will provide you with the essential details for applying for a National Science Foundation Collaborative for Excellence in Teacher Preparation in Pennsylvania (NSF CETP-PA) Teaching Scholars scholarship award, along with general information about the scholarship, an application, and a copy of the selection criteria scoring sheet used by the reviewers. Additionally, the review committee may request an interview before making a final decision.

This letter contains some additional information that you should read very carefully. The information below describes some of the expectations of you as an NSF Teaching Scholar. Additional details will be found under the "Recipient Responsibilities Will Include" section of the "Fact Pack."

If you are a recipient of a Teaching Scholars Scholarship, you will be required to stay in contact with us by mail, phone, or e-mail for three years following your graduation. Also, we have provided a server on which you will be required to place a personal webpage. This webpage must be kept current with information about yourself and your teaching experiences. You are encouraged to include photos of yourself and your students as a part of your webpage. More details about this will be provided later.

By accepting a Teaching Scholars Scholarship, you also are consenting to release pictures and information related to your participation in the NSF CETP-PA grant project. These pictures may be used in program promotional brochures and posters.

The more exposure and experiences you have in a CETP-PA environment, the better prepared you will be as a teacher to use the content and pedagogy of the state and national standards in mathematics and science. So, as an NSF Teaching Scholar, you will be encouraged to enroll in CETP-PA sections of as many courses as possible during your teacher certification program. CETP-PA courses and sections on your campus are available from the Director of your Science and Math Center.

Each campus has a designated "Scholarship Shepherd" who can answer any questions you may have about CETP-PA courses or this scholarship. They are also your point-of-contact for the submission of your application. A list of the Scholarship Shepherds is included as Attachment 2 at the end of this package. If you are a community college student enrolled in a CETP-PA affiliated community college, CETP-PA course and section information is available from the Community College Coordinator for your region, or their designee. The contact information for these coordinators is also listed on Attachment 2. The NSF CETP-PA Project Office at Indiana University of Pennsylvania at 1-800-487-4899 is also available to answer any questions.
