Dear LVACS Members,
I hope everyone enjoyed his/her summer but fall has begun and we are
beginning another year of meetings and exciting seminars. I would
like to encourage all of
you to become involved in this section. The seminars are
interesting, the dinners and
conversations good. But most of all you can make important
contacts with professionals in your
field. With more active members we can expand the programs
and provide better member services.
I enjoyed publishing the Octagon last year and am looking forward
to another round of issues. But I would like to ask for your
help. If you have any
information of interest to society members in the Lehigh Valley I would
love to publish it! I hope the
section's publications will truly reflect the unique character and
diversity of the Lehigh Valley, and for this I
need your ideas and contributions. The deadline for submission of
materials for the print
Octagon will be a very firm five weeks before the mailing date.
Although this may seem early, it is
necessary to insure that those members electing postal distribution of
the Octagon will receive
their issues in time for section meetings.
The email distribution of the Octagon has been very successful.
Thanks to those of you who subscribe via email, we are actually under
budget for publication last
year! We have about 300 email subscribers - that's almost 30% of
our membership. My goal
this year is to increase that by 10%. The savings could help to
offset the sections budget deficit
in other areas and allow us to expand our scholarship programs further.
To join the email distribution list, please send me an email with the
subject line - Email Octagon - at mjwilson@po-box.esu.edu. This will
allow me to add you to our
distribution list. Please be assured that these addresses will remain
private and will only be used
to notify members of Octagon availability. Email distribution of the
Octagon will provide a
significant savings in printing and mailing costs for the section as
the Octagon is our
largest expense. Of course, you may elect to continue to receive the
print version of the Octagon.
