ROUNDTABLES

Many of our Round tables echo the conference theme, among them are “Civil War Propaganda Art,” “African Americans and the Civil War,” “The Civil War: Alternate Strategies,” and “Civil War in Our Midst;”

Others explore more universal conflicts, ranging from  “Ancient Histories: Different Intentions,” and “The Devil as Scapegoat,” to “America’s Ongoing Sibling Rivalry;”

While others provide an opportunity for nuts-and-bolts discussions, including “Inter-University Student Collaboration,” “The Honors Preparation Year,” and “Peer Mentoring First-Year Students,” and “A Challenging Biology Honors Program.”

PANELS

The academic core of our conference, of course, can be found in our many panel presentations, which are drawn from the conference threads

from the neglected and forgotten participants....

"Civil War Nurses – Changing Gender Roles," "Changing Gender Roles: Women at War, Women at Home," "Women Soldiers, Black Spies, and Ordinary Folk," and "Slave Narratives and Songs: An Interactive Workshop"

Through  the cultural aspects of strife....

"Cultural Perspectives of the Civil War," "Mythology and Symbolism After the Civil War," "Civil War Poetry," "Photography and the Civil War," and "Clothing As Text: Conservation and Preservation of Historical Clothing."

To the Rhetorical and Political Questions....

"Defining – and Redefining – Our Terms: From Meaning to Motive," "Why Do We Fight?  Rhetoric and Motive in Civil Wars," "When Outsiders Become Involved in Civil Strife," "Selling and Addressing the Civil War: The Place of Rhetoric, Music, and Propoganda," "Politics and History," " Issues in Civil Rights."

These panels explore the patterns of conflicts.... civil and uncivil.... throughout history.
