| THE MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS & MANAGEMENT IS TO PROVIDE QUALITY EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS WHICH PREPARE OUR STUDENTS "... TO ENTER A COMPLEX CHANGING GLOBAL SOCIETY WITH COMPETENCE AND CONFIDENCE." | ||
The
purpose of the Management program
is to provide students with the knowledge and training which they will
need to pursue a career in management. Management theory is integrated
with management practices to enable graduates from this program to perform
as line-level managers in a variety of organizations.
If your goal is to become a professional manager who is not only a trained decision-maker, but is also an individual who understands the complex relationships that exist between the manager, his organization and society at large, then please feel free to contact the department for more information. |
||
The
purpose of the Economics program
is to provide students with the knowledge and training which they will
need to pursue a career in economics. Our program is a traditional
one in that it is designed to teach students (1) how to frame questions
for economic analysis, (2) which principles, tools and data apply to the
problem under consideration, and (3) how to analyze unexpected results
when they occur.
Traditional programs in economics also train their graduates to challenge the conventional wisdom. That is, instead of teaching dogma or revealed truths, traditional programs teach economists about alternative relationships and to be alert for unintended outcomes. |
||
|
Most economic problems are complex. Therefore economists must be acute
observers of the world around them because the quality of economic analysis
depends upon an accurate description of the factors, forces and behavior
under consideration.
If you want to make a contribution to the "Dismal Science" by helping it to understand production, exchange and distribution in the Information Age, then please feel free to contact the department for more information. —Harrison G. Hartman Chairperson of Economics |
