Calliope is winding down for the 2006-2007 school year. The 2007 version of the print journal is currently in pre-production and will be available in August. We will still be accepting submissions all summer for the October issue of the online journal, which will be our first publication for the 2007-2008 school year.

The submission deadline for the 2007 issue of the Calliope print journal has been extended to April 30. Any submissions recieved after that date will be considered for the October issue of the digital journal. This Thursday is our next open mic in Common Grounds. As always, live bands will be playing this Friday at Beers lecture hall. Click on the above ad for more details. That's all for now as the year winds down.

Open mic last night went
very well with readings, acapella singing, and acoustic guitar. Pictures
from it and the March 8 open mic will be up shortly. Tonight there will
be live music and stand up comedy in Beers lecture hall courteous of

A bit late on the photo update for our last open mic, but still updated. Our next open mic is Thursday, March 8. Come get ready for spring break with some poetry and music. Calliope also co-sponored a reading by poet Eamon Grennan last night in Beers Lecture Hall which went over very well. Finally, the March issue of our digital journal is now online! A prose heavy issue this month and even an essay contest for your enjoyment. That's all for now. 19 Feb 07
More changes, most of which are not as obvious, like font changes. You'll notice there are more links under the "Online Issues" section to the left. This is in preparation for those issues until a better linking system is devised because there are a lot of pages on this site and editing each one to add a new link is tedious. So the March and April issues currently are blank with a place holder kitty image, but in two weeks there'll be a March issue, so that won't last long. The "Infamous" link is explained within. There's currently only one article up, but the others are coming. One needs to be typed and another needs to be found basically. Also, the image gallery has been updated with actual images from the past Calliopes! Go check it out. And remember, open mic this Thursday in Common Grounds from 7-10pm.

Site changes have been made. The photo gallery links previously seen to the right have been moved to a single page along with the pics of the physical issues and image excerpts from issues. All galleries can now be accessed via the "Image Gallery" link that was formerly called "Cover Gallery" up above. Two pics, albeit low quality, have been added from the open mic last week, and our ads see a new variety of artwork along with the full image from the previous ad now keeping watch along the right hand border. More updates are planned (like actually putting images in the "issue excerpt" section) so check back soon (maybe Tuesday).

Thursday's
Open Mic went well with people reading their poetry and playing acoustic
music. Due to ill preparedness, there are no pictures of the beginning,
just some shots of the end when things died down greatly. Those will
be up in the gallery section to the right shortly.The
end of February is also nearing, which means the dead line for submissions
to this year's journal is coming up as well. You can deposit work in
the boxes in the English office in Stroud or Kemp Library, or send us
an e-mail. For more details, click on the Submission's Guidelines link
above.

Tomorrow
we will be having our first open mic of the semester at Common Grounds
from 7-10 pm. You can find out about all our events and the activities
of our friends at the Art Association from now on by clicking on the
little ad up above (which currently doesn't work in the issue section
due to "permission" issues...). To reiterate statements from
the post just below this one, check back frequently as we'll not only
be updating the digital version of the journal monthly with student
writing and art work, but will be announcing artistic activities in
the community and posting photos from them.

Welcome
to the new online version of Calliope! Now with digital publishing,
we hope to bring you, the students of ESU, three issues of student writing
per semester in addition to the annual print publication. The February
edition is already posted, featuring new submissions and until now unpublished
older pieces. We also aim to constantly update the page between issues,
with photos added to the column at the right and ads for Calliope and
Art Association events at the top of the page. If you're curious about
the date for the next open mic or Billy Mack sponsored concert, you'll
find out here first. So for now, enjoy our new website, only ten years
behind everyone else... |
